| HSBC in buildings partnership to halve emissions |
| 15 Aug 2008 |
| Recognising the importance of buildings within it’s sustainability programme and having already received an “excellent” environmental rating for its Canary Wharf Head Office, HSBC has now partnered with Mitsubishi to halve carbon emmissions from heating and cooling in the branch network. |
| HSBC is rolling out a programme to significantly reduce carbon emmissions in its branch network. The bank has worked in partnership with Mitsubishi Electric to review the way it heats and cools its branches and introduce more sustainable and cost effective solutions involving heat recovery equipment and advanced control systems.
Initial phase results indicate that relevant carbon emmissions from the 800 branches could be halved with an operational payback of the total investment of £16m in around seven years. Of course as a “cost for carbon” becomes more real those economics begin to look even more positive.
